We are delighted to announce our third deadline day deal - the signing of exciting winger Carlos Mendes Gomes on loan from Bolton Wanderers until the end of the 2025/26 season!
The 26-year-old attacker, known for his pace, flair and eye for goal strengthen the Grecians squad for the rest of the season and becomes our thirteenth signing of the transfer window.
Having been a part of Atlético Madrid’s youth set-up, he moved to England with West Didsbury and Chorlton and starred for Morecambe in their promotion push, featured in the Championship with Luton Town and most recently impressed at Bolton Wanderers. Mendes Gomes brings proven quality and plenty of attacking threat, having represented Guinea-Bissau on international on five occasions.

The versatile forward can play in central attacking midfield positions as well as a centre-forward and out wide.
Mendes Gomes spent three years with Morecambe and finished as their top scorer as the Shrimps were promoted to League One in 2021. That secured a move to Luton Town and a taste of the Championship before a season-long loan to Fleetwood Town in 2022/23. He would then join the Trotters for an undisclosed fee in 2023.
Speaking about bringing Carlos to Devon, Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell said: “Carlos is an exciting signing for the club and the quality that he brings.
“He joins us from a consistent play-off team and is a player that's played in those bigger games in League One - and has scored goals in League One. He's an exciting player to bring into the club this season.
“We thank Bolton for how professional they have been with the loan of Carlos.”
Welcome to Exeter City, Carlos!
