Match Preview: Barnet (H)

Match Preview Exeter City vs Barnet

Tuesday night football returns to St James Park as Exeter City welcome Barnet for the first midweek fixture of the 2026/27 Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The Grecians will be looking to respond after a narrow 2-1 defeat away to York City on Saturday, a result which followed an impressive 2-0 home victory over Accrington Stanley in City's opening home league fixture of the season.

With the season still in its early stages, there is plenty of football still to be played, but Tuesday's encounter presents the Grecians with an opportunity to put another three points on the board in front of the home supporters.

Standing in their way is a Barnet side who have made a strong start to life back in the EFL. The Bees began their league campaign with a 3-1 victory over Salford City before following that up with another impressive away win, beating Shrewsbury Town 3-1. They also recorded a 5-1 victory over Arsenal U21 in the EFL Trophy.

For City, the fixture is another chance to build momentum at the Park. The Grecians have already shown the importance of home form, keeping a clean sheet against Accrington and putting together a controlled performance to secure all three points.

This is the first meeting since the extraordinary 5-3 Emirates FA Cup match in 2024 at St James Park. The Grecians have also enjoyed the better of the overall recent head-to-head record, with six wins, one draw and one defeat in the last nine meetings.

With Barnet arriving in Devon in confident mood, City will need the energy from the stands as they look to make St James Park a difficult place for visiting teams once again.

See you there, Grecians!@

Exeter City 5 Barnet 3 | November 2, 2024 | Emirates FA Cup

City made it through to the Second Round of the FA Cup in the most dramatic fashion, as they came from behind twice to beat Barnet 5-3.

Josh Magennis, not content with just getting his first SJP goal, netted a hat-trick, while Jay Bird and Kamari Doyle scored late into stoppage time to put the Grecians through.
