City Women are back in WNL League Cup action this weekend, as AFC Bournemouth make the trip to the Coach Road in a battle for a spot in the third round of the tournament.
A four-game unbeaten run that started with City beating Fulham 4-2 in the first round proper of the WNL League Cup will fill the Grecians with confidence as they battle it out against AFC Bournemouth for a spot in the third round of the tournament. Since that win against Fulham, Abbie Britton's side have gone on to claim a 6-0 win against Torquay United in the first round of the FA Cup, before a 1-1 draw in the Devon Derby and a 7-0 win against Billericay Town in the Women's National League.
Sunday's visitors will come into the game with plenty of pedigree, currently sitting top of the Women's National League and yet to lose a game this season, and yet to lose a league fixture in 57 games. Added momentum will come after a 5-0 win last week against AFC Wimbledon, a team the Grecians will be facing in the league next weekend. As for standout performers, City will have to watch out for Cherries' leading goalscorer Sophie Quirk, netting her sixth goal of the season last week agains the Dons and keeping the Dorset team top of the league.
What is certain to be an intense battle between two teams playing some of their best football at the minute, the closeness of the pack in the midst of the league table could move the Grecians up to fifth in the league with a win on Sunday, whereas a defeat could leave them in the relegation zone with Billericay Town. City will look to lean on a supportive crowd down at the County Ground at Coach Road, so be sure to buy your tickets in advance and save your money!
