The winner of the Foundation’s monthly prize of £1,000 for September is John Tinker.
John has supported City since moving to Exeter over 20 years ago. Unfortunately due to continuing ill-health he is unable to attend matches, but supports the team by being both a Trust member and a Foundation member as well as contributing to other appeals.
The Tinkers also support the Chiefs and believe that sports clubs are a vital local asset that not only bring sporting communities together but can be beneficial to the wider community. John has very generously donated half of his prize back to the Club, thank you John! He intends to use the rest to help pay for the expense of Christmas.
John remembers the last football match he attended: “The last football match I went to was a dull draw between England and Belgium in October 1964 at Wembley. It was part of the FA’s experiment with floodlight evening matches and they sent out thousands of tickets to local schools to boost the attendance. I was a school in Richmond at the time and the school got around 40 tickets. It was cold, damp, a long walk from Wembley Town station and boring match. The City matches I remember were the Man Utd FA Cup ones, the initial draw and then the replay with all their stars”
