Matt Roach appointed Managing Director

Matt Roach

Exeter City is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Roach as Managing Director.

Matt, who trained as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte, has held a number of senior finance and leadership positions. His career has included roles with Whitbread plc, and most recently as Head of Finance and Operations at Exeter Science Park. Prior to this, Matt spent nine years as Managing Director of Exeter Airport.

Exeter born and bred, Matt has a strong affinity with the Club as both a Trust Member and a Big Bank season ticket holder. He has also served on a number of Club committees over the years.

Wilf Walsh, chair of Exeter City Football Club, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Matt to the Club. His commercial and leadership experience, plus a passion for Exeter City makes him an ideal appointment for this role.

“We are grateful to John Street who stepped in as interim General Manager in May and will remain in post until Matt takes up his appointment from October 1.”

Matt said: “This is an incredible opportunity, and I’m delighted to be able to support the Club as we embark on the next phase of its journey, particularly in the year of its 125th anniversary.

“I’m looking forward to building on the foundations which have been put in place through the Club and Trust’s recent vision and to getting to know the team, both at St James Park and the Cliff Hill Training Ground.”

Matt added: “My very first game was City vs Wolves in the FA Cup 3rd round In January 1978 as a six-year-old. Unsurprisingly it stuck in the memory - pitch invasions, a broken crossbar, and dad lifting me on his shoulders to get out of the Big Bank and watch the rest of the game from the safety of the space next to the old grandstand - and that was me hooked. Two of my sons are also now Big Bank season ticket holders so it’s clearly in the genes!

“The supporters are the lifeblood of this Club, and I truly understand what it means to them. That connection will drive everything I do, and I'm excited about the future.”
