Timur Tutierov on joining City on loan

Timur Interview

Exeter City’s newest recruit Timur Tutierov has given his first interview after joining the Grecians on loan from Premier League side Sunderland until the end of the 25/26 season.

The young winger is embarking on his first loan spell in men’s football and is excited by the challenge ahead of him.

“I'm very happy to be here,” said Timur, because since the first time I met everyone, I felt trust and it motivated me to come here.”

Timur spent a couple of days in December at the Cliff Hill Training Ground, joining the team to train ahead of the loan.

“After my conversation with Gary Caldwell I wanted to join the club, because the words which he said to me give me confidence to join. It's very important for the young player like me, especially for the first loan. All the boys are very friendly, very nice to me, they make this period easier.

When asked about his playing style, Timur said: “I think in general, as a person, my main attribute, I'm very curious. I said it to everyone; I love to learn.

“In terms of my game style, it's probably all about the speed, because I find myself quick, and I'm good in finishing, good in 1v1. It's all what I can say.

Timur is looking forward to the challenge of adapting to League One football: “It's a very interesting challenge, because the league is very tight, so we could get promoted, who knows, it depends how good we do, so I'm looking forward to that and obviously that's a great goal to have, even by myself, to do all my best and help the club."

Timur made the move to England from Ukraine in 2023 and has fully adapted to his new home and culture. “In the beginning it was hard, because I was a kid and it's a new experience,” said Timur.

“I appreciate all the people who was with me and helped me to integrate, and now I would say I feel myself as a part of the English society, if I can say it like that.”

Timur has been named on the bench for the Black Cats in four Premier League matches so far this season.

“It's a great experience. I appreciate the gaffer with his trust to me because obviously it's a very, very big step to have a bench in the Premier League but I think it's just the beginning of my journey.

“It's just the first of the steps and the next steps is obviously Exeter and I believe my time in Exeter is going to help me to achieve a bigger goal”
