Women's Match Preview: Lewes (A)

Lewes A prev

The Grecians will begin WNL Southern Premier action in 2026 with a trip to the East Sussex where they will face Lewes at The Dripping Pan.

Abbie Britton's side signed off league action in 2025 with an impressive 6-1 victory away against Gwalia United, leaving the team in high spirits throughout the Christmas break. That win in South Wales leaves the Grecians in sixth place in the league, steadying the ship after a turbulent couple of weeks in the buildup to the festive period. City will now look ahead to Sunday 4th January as they look to resume their WNL Southern Premier campaign with a journey to East Sussex to face Lewes.

The Rooks, pioneers of equal pay in football, play out of The Dripping Pan stadium in Lewes and has been the home of the club since its foundation in 1885. Lewes currently sit in eighth place in the WNL Southern Premier and just the one point behind the Grecians, meaning that a win on Sunday would create some real breathing space between the midfield pack and the relegation-threatened teams. In terms of dangerous players, the Sussex team currently have three players all tied on five goals so far this season; Olivia Carpenter, Leah Lane, and Rebekah Trewitt.
