Giota is a Grecian!

Signing announcement for Giota Papaioannou

Born and raised in Greece, Giota supported Panathinaikos growing up and becomes the first Greek player to represent either of the Grecian’s first team squads.

Moving to the UK initially for university, Giota joined Argyle in 2018. During her time with the club, she represented Greece at youth level and has also been named in senior international squads during UEFA Women’s European Championship qualifying campaigns.

City supporters may be familiar with their latest Grecian, as Giota has played against Exeter on several occasions, scoring against City during the final game of last season.

Speaking about signing for City, Giota said: "Feels great to be here, and I'm really excited for something different - a new challenge in my career. I can't wait to get started.

"I've been training here with the girls for two and a half weeks now and I knew some of them from my previous club, and they're a great bunch, and I think we can build something special here."
