Joe Whitworth was left frustrated following Exeter City's 2-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic at the Brick Community Stadium.

A slow start from the Grecians in the opening 15 minutes saw the hosts take the lead before a City substitute allowed the team the grow back into the game. "In the first 15 minutes we were nowhere near good enough at doing the basics well enough. We made silly mistakes which got the crowd on their side."

It was another encounter that saw a slow start from City, with Whitworth struggling to identify the issues that the team seem to be experiencing in the early points in games. "I can't really put my finger on it. I think it's a whole team thing, there's too many individuals that don't start well enough and that translates to the team."

"It feels like there's been a few times where we've let early goals in and we've reacted well, but by then we're already one nil down and chasing the game. That's what's really so frustrating at the minute." said the City goalkeeper.

The Grecians now look ahead to next Saturday where they will face Leyton Orient at St James Park, where Whitworth will look to take inspiration from previous games on home soil this season. "We've had some really good results at SJP this year and obviously recently we haven't been getting any results at all, so we need to bounce back."

Joe ended with a message for the supporters, "This is where we need the fans. We know we're in a relegation battle but we're going to react and we're going to keep fighting until the end and we're going to give everything we can to try and stay up."
