Exeter City were beaten 2-0 by Wigan Athletic at the Brick Community Stadium, as Matt Taylor shares his thoughts on the encounter.

An unmarked header in the opening minutes of the game afforded the hosts the opening goal, extending the Grecians frustrating defensive record as of late. "We've given them yet another awful goal, it's indefensible. I can't describe it any other way."

This goal forced the City manager into an early change, with Timur Tutierov making way for Josh Magennis with less than a quarter of an hour on the clock. "We made the change to give the team something more to hold on to, and I thought we were better from that point on."

"From the change until the second goal we were in the game more, but we didn't have that quality on a difficult pitch to really hurt them."

The Grecians now face more sides in similarly precarious positions in the league table, with Taylor believing these will be crucial. "We're going to play some more teams in the next couple of fixtures who are right in and amongst it, so we have to be better from start to finish."

City look ahead to next Saturday when they will host Leyton Orient at St James Park in another opportunity to build towards safety. "Two out of the next three at home against teams where we have to pick up points, there's no two ways about it. We are required to pick up points and that will come from the performance first and foremost, but also the atmosphere in the stands."
