Exeter City can confirm that striker Jay Bird has completed a permanent move to League Two side Salford City for an undisclosed fee.

Jay joined the Grecians in the summer of 2024 and wore the prestigious fan-funded no.31 shirt. Jay made twenty appearances in red and white, scoring twice. His first goal coming against Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy and his second against Barnet in the Emirates FA Cup.

The 24-year-old also enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Rochdale during the second half of last season, scoring five goals in ten appearances and playing a key role in their push to the play-offs.

Manager Gary Caldwell said: “Jay’s journey with us is another successful story for the club. From playing in the lower leagues in Scotland at Arbroath to scoring in our our great FA Cup run this season and having a big impact on loan at Rochdale. He is another outstanding find by our chief scout, Malcolm Crosby, and a brilliant example of what can happen when talent is matched with opportunity and the right environment.

“We’ve supported Jay’s development carefully, building him up step by step in training, and it’s been fantastic to see him grow. This move is an opportunity for Jay to play regular 1st team football, and a proud moment for everyone involved in his progression. His story shows exactly what our recruitment model is all about.”

Everyone at the club wishes Jay the best with his move and future career.
