Jayden Stockley pens permanent deal

Striker signs for club record fee

31 August 2017

Striker Jayden Stockley says he wants to be a big part of Exeter City’s future having put pen to paper on a deal at St James Park.

The 23-year-old striker, who spent the second half of the 2015/16 season on loan at City, has signed from Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen for a club record fee.

Stockley, who scored 10 goals in 21 starts in his previous spell at the club, said once he knew Paul Tisdale was interested in signing him there was no other club he wanted to join.

“As soon as I became aware that there was a chance of me leaving (Aberdeen), I had a conservation with Tis,” said Jayden. “I obviously had conversations with other clubs as well, but it was kind of tunnel vision when Tis spoke to me.

“We got things going quite quickly. At one point we didn’t think it was going to happen. There were stumbling blocks but we managed to get it done and I am very happy about that.

“I feel really excited about it and I am thankful to Tis and everyone for pushing it through. It was a move that when it came up I was excited straight away. I had positive conversations with Tis and Steve (Perryman) and I knew this was the place come back to.”

Stockley, who started his career off as a youngster at Bournemouth, says he has kept tabs on the Grecians results since leaving Exeter in the summer of 2016. He had seven other loan spells during his time as Bournemouth player, but nowhere felt like home as much as St James Park.

“I had my heart set on joining Exeter,” said Jayden. “I have kept in contact with most of the boys that are still here and a couple that have moved on and I have always kept an eye on Exeter as a club.

“I wanted to go to a club where I believe in the same things as the manager and I know that there are good players. So as soon as I knew Tis was interested, me and my family jumped at the chance.

“It is where I have felt happiest and it is no coincidence that it is where I have played my best football. I want to come back here. I know it is going to be tough but I want to work as hard as possible to pay back the faith that the manager has shown in me.”
