💬 Gary Caldwell on visit of Bristol Rovers

Manager's thoughts ahead of return fixtures with the Gas

1 February 2024

Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as the Grecians prepare to take on Bristol Rovers at SJP on Saturday.

City take on the Pirates for the second time in 11 days following a 1-0 win at the Memorial Stadium thanks to Sonny Cox's strike, but Caldwell expects a very different type of game this time around.

"In terms of preparation I think it is easier for both teams, but I don't think the actual game has any relevance as it was played in horrendous conditions," Gary said.

"It was a game of two halves, we dominated the first, them the second, but we managed to get that goal. I'd liked us to have been better in the second half but we are confident. It is another game in League One where if you don't turn up to compete and have the right attutude, you will get beat.

"Both team will be slightly different, but we're at home where are four unbeaten and we want to continue that. While we won the last game, they will want to come here and get revenge.

"Obviously it is Matty's first game back to a stadium where he had great success, and that will be a good experience for him. We just have to make sure it isn't a good experience for him after the game."
