Exeter City Women continue their hunt for promotion with a visit to Torquay United, although the Grecians will not have to travel far with the game rearranged to take place at the Cliff Hill Training Ground on Thursday evening (7.45pm Kick Off.)
The Yellows have undergone a tough first season in the National League, yet recent victory over Southampton Women’s FC give them a fighting chance of achieving their creditable aim of staying in the division come May.
United’s new management duo of Tracey Cross and Jake Ellis have been busy adding to the squad for the second half of the season, Ellie-Jayne Bishop, Tiana Campbell, Charlotte Pettinger and Chloe Williams have all been added from South West Premier side Liskeard Athletic. Cross and Ellis have also signed Bekah Rose from Marine Academy Plymouth, an accomplished midfielder who will add further quality to their ever-expanding squad.
The two sides have met twice already this season, City victorious in both games by a 7-0 scoreline, Sarah Stacey hitting hat tricks in both games. However, with new additions and a battling performance in Sunday’s Devon County Cup Semi Final against Plymouth Argyle behind them, the expectation is for a tighter game on Thursday evening.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side have a big week ahead, with Thursday’s game followed by a League Cup Plate Semi Final against Derby County, a tie that offers the team a chance to make history and reach a National Final for the first time.
However, from day one the league has always been the focus for this squad and as the 365 day mark recently ticked by since the team last lost in a League fixture, City will be keen to continue that run on Thursday evening.
