Exeter City Women will travel to Billericay Town on Sunday, hoping to secure a place in the League Cup Plate Semi Final’s and move one step closer to a showcase National Final.
Billericay play a division above the Grecians in the National League Southern Premier, enjoying a steady first half of the season and currently sitting eight in the division. The Blues have won their last three games, beating London Bees in the league before Cup victories over Hashtag United Reserves and Dulwich Hamlet, the victory over Dulwich coming in midweek. James Gibson’s side secured their place in Sunday’s tie by easing past two sides in City’s division, thumping 9-0 victories coming against both Portishead Town and Southampton Women’s FC.
Maddie Biggs has been in impressive form for the Blues, hitting eleven goals in thirteen appearances, eight of those coming in league action. Ruby Sealey will also be a significant threat to the Grecians backline, she has scored six goals this season and impressed opposition managers with three player of the match awards already secured.
Abbie Britton and Abbie Wakley’s face the rare luxury of going into this contest as underdogs, however City will be keen to show the continued improvement in their own performances throughout the season and provide a cup upset in Essex. With the Grecians in rampant goal scoring form since the turn of the year, they will travel confident that at their best they can match an established Southern Premier side and give themselves a chance of further competing for a National Trophy.
