💬 Charlie Cummins on becoming a Grecian

Hear from City's newest recruit

26 January 2024

Exeter City's latest recruit, Charlie Cummins, has spoken with excitement having made the January move from his native Ireland to SJP.

The 18-year-old leaves League of Ireland side Cobh Ramblers after impressing the management team during a trial period earlier this month, and has agreed a two and a half year deal which will see him become an integral part of the under-21 side, which will aid a pathway to first-team football.

"Of course I am absolutely buzzing to be here and really excited. I had a great chat with the manager about the plan for me," Charlie said.

Cummins' trial period included a friendly match against Southampton U21s, with the Irishman notching an assist for a James Scott finish.

"All I could do was come in and give 100% and put my name out there - that's what they look for, the goals and assists! But for me it was about working as hard as I can throughout the match. I'm happy to get the assist but for me it's about playing as well as I can.

"If I'm training with the first team, then my goal is to break into the first team. I'll be working hard every day and doing the extra that I need to, to make that happen.

"When you see the names like Ollie Watkins and Ethan Ampadu and what they've gone on to do since being at Exeter, it gives you great confidence."
