💬 Gary Caldwell reflects on defeat at Blackpool

13 January 2024

Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as Exeter City suffered a 2-0 defeat at play-off chasing Blackpool.

Goals either side of the break from Albie Morgan downed the Grecians, who also had Vil Sinisalo to thank for an earlier penalty save from Jordan Rhodes, and Caldwell admits that his side were second best for much of the contest.

"They are the best team at home in the league for a reason and we've seen that today," Gary said.

"They are a very good football team and give you lots of problems. We were organised against the ball and we restricted them today but conceded two goals from outside the box.

"The big disappointment for me was we can be better in possession, we caused ourselves too many problems. In the second half we were better and played on the front foot and created chances.

"It's shame we couldn't get a goal because would have unnerved the stadium. But Blackpool are a good team who press very well and we had a gameplan to try and play through that, but too many times we made bad decisions."
