Exeter City Women will look to extend their lead at the top of the division as they host bottom side Selsey on Sunday afternoon at the Exwick Sports Hub.
Faced with a complete rebuild after a summer exodus, it has been a tough first half of the season for Rhys Griffiths' side. The Seals have lost all fifteen games this season, with eleven of those coming in league action. The West Sussex side have conceded eighty one goals in their eleven games, scoring twice.
However, despite some harsh statistics articulating the Seals’ season, Griffiths has built a young side whose aim will be to learn and gain experience at tier four as part of a longer development process. Whilst many Clubs facing the struggles on the pitch this season that the Seals have faced would have faded away, Griffiths' side continue to show a fight and determination to improve their results.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side will be all too aware of the form of Sunday’s visitors, knowing that whilst three points is the first target, goals scored will play a part in the bigger picture of the Division One title race. City have been prolific at the start of 2024, but perhaps not as clinical as they might hope. Sunday will offer a chance to once again apply pressure on rivals AFC Bournemouth, City hoping to visit Dorset in two weeks time with a six point gap and a significant advantage in goal difference.
