Exeter City Women return to action this weekend with the visit to third placed Swindon Town in a tough opening to 2024.
Town have enjoyed a successful first half of the season, winning six of their ten league fixtures after a summer of rebuilding. Defeats to AFC Bournemouth and the Grecians, alongside draws at Moneyfields and Keynsham have been the only dropped points in a campaign that has eleven victories in all competitions.
Annie Colston continues her impressive form in Wiltshire, hitting eighteen goals this season, Sunday’s fixture bringing all three of the divisions most prolific forwards together alongside City’s own Jenna Markham and Sarah Stacey. Summer signing Ellie Strippel has contributed nine goals for Richard Wood’s side as she continues to impress in tier four, whilst the pace of Helena Diaz-Butcher will again be a threat for the City backline, the forward putting Town ahead at the Hub in the reverse fixture back in September.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side have been faultless so far, recording nine victories from nine, but Sunday will undoubtedly provide their toughest test of the season. With Town facing both the Grecians and AFC Bournemouth in consecutive weeks, they will be aiming to put themselves in the title race for the second half of the campaign, so we are all set for an intriguing afternoon at Foundation Park on Sunday as the Division One season recommences.
