💬 Pierce Sweeney previews Bolton

Captain's pre-match preview

8 March 2024

City captain Pierce Sweeney has given his thoughts as the Grecians prepare to take on Bolton Wanderers at SJP on Saturday, as part of the club's HerGameToo double-header.

City will be looking to bounce back from defeat at Peterborough last week where they were beaten 2-1, despite a largely positive performance, as well as looking to make amends for the harrowing 7-0 defeat to the Trotters back at the end of November.

"Look, that defeat is going to be spoken about this week - there's no hiding from it - but i think we are a different team now. Our mentality has changed as a team.

"We went into that game fragile, naive and soft and that showed. These results always stick with you, so it should be all the fuel we need. That aside, we should be up for the game anyway. Bolton are a brilliant side and they have loads of threats at the top end of the pitch, so we have to be ready for the threats that they pose."

Sweeney is the club's HerGameToo ambassador, and also touched on the importance of the campaign.

"It's really important, like every campaign that we support. Our club is so good at supporting them, whether it's a game at SJP, or backing HerGameToo. Women's football is really growing and there are some huge names in the game, and looking at Arsenal who got 60,000 at the Emirates the other day - it's huge."
