Following City's 2-2 draw and penalty shootout defeat on the road against Cheltenham Town in the Jersey Mike's Trophy, Assistant Manager Dan Green shared his reaction.
The Grecians fought back from 1-0 down at half time to lead 2-1 in the 88th minute thanks to Josh Gordon and Charlie Cummins' first goals for the club, but a late Robins penalty took the match to a shootout, and the home side claimed the extra point. Despite the result, Dan was upbeat about City's performance.
"Second half, I loved what the group did," Dan said. "So much of that is what we want from the team moving forward. The way that they attack the game, the way that individually, they put their stamp on the on the game.
"But, the first half was too far off the level that we demand from the players. They were told that at half time and, credit to them, they came out in the second half and put in a far better performance."
Charlie Cummins netted his first goal for the club with a superb first-time half volley in the 88th minute, and Dan was pleased for the Irishman.
"Yeah, brilliant for Chaz. Charlie was part of a second half performance that was far closer to the level that we expect from the players. The frustration is we should have won that game being two one up with that short amount of time left.
"But learning for a very young group, in that second half and hopefully they can go and replicate that more often."
