City leave the rain-soaked One Call Stadium after sharing the points tally with Mansfield Town as neither team managed to find the back of the net.
Gary Caldwell made it clear that he wanted a reaction from his squad a week on from a disappointing result at home against lowly Rotherham United.
"To get a clean sheet after last week, to show the performance level that we have shown for a number of weeks before last weekend, I think it was a good point on the road that we have to work again next week and try and build on it at home to Northampton."
Sunderland loanee Timur Tutierov was handed his first start for the Grecians since signing in January, the Ukrainian impressing Caldwell as he looks to build of of his two goals so far at City.
"Delighted, every time he's been on the pitch he's been a threat."
"He is a massive outlet for us one vs one, he created moments where on another day he could score and I think the big thing for him is that it was his first league start, we have to remember that."
"He's a young player with huge potential and he is here for us to support him, develop him and make him a better player."
Johnly Yfeko likewise found a place in the starting eleven, a first start for the ex-Rangers man since December.
"I thought he was excellent, it's great to have him back."
"We need consistency in his performances and in his life to recover properly and make sure on Monday mornings he's ready to come and train and put another good week's training in to be available for selection next Saturday."
City now look ahead to next weekend when they will host Northampton Town at St James Park and look to restart a run of strong home form.
"I watched them live on Tuesday night against Barnsley, they are a physical team."
"We lost at their place earlier on in the season so it's a game again where, like today, Mansfield could have done the double over us."
