Exeter City begin their 2026/27 EFL Trophy campaign against Tottenham Hotspur U21 at St James Park on Tuesday night.
George Birch is looking forward to a slightly different experience for him and his younger counterparts in the team, "It's really good, especially for lads like me who want to break into the first team, just to showcase what we can do and hopefully progress forward."
George has benefitted from first-team minutes already this season, having come off the subs bench numerous times in the opening games of the Sky Bet League Two campaign; "It's been good, especially just getting some minutes in front of the fans and just showing that I want to be there and what I can do. Yeah, it's been good so far."
In terms of inspiration that can be taken from former players now in George's position, he noted his admiration of player such as Watkins & Ampadu; "Ollie Watkins, obviously, and Ethan Ampadu. You're seeing these players play at the level they're playing at and you just you just think, oh, I want to get minutes, I want to play, I want to progress just like that."
