Ilmari Niskanen ahead of Boxing Day battle with the Bluebirds

Ilmari Niskanen pre Cardiff City (A)

City's flying Fin is looking forward to Boxing Day's challenge, with City making the short journey to South Wales where they will face Cardiff City.

The Grecian's flying Fin opened his account for the 2025/26 season last time out in a dominant 3-0 against Barnsley at St James Park, scoring the opener in fine fashion. "It's exactly the kind of goal we work on everyday in training. Brilliant buildup from the right hand side, a corner run from Ethan and a brilliant cross from him. I arrived at the back post and I was just focusing on getting a good connection, but I gladly managed to sneak that one in!"

St James Park has provided City with a strong run of home form since the end of September, unbeaten in the league and the FA Cup with an aggregate scoreline of 8-0 in the previous three games. "The home form has been tremendous, I cannot even remember the last time we lost at home. SJP is a special place to play and again on Saturday the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic."

Boxing Day's opponents are currently sitting pretty at the top of the league, Ilmari and the rest of the team are under no illusions that it will certainly be a challenge, "I think we can take so much confidence from those previous performance against top teams in the league, Bradford and Bolton were both really close to the top, but we need to be even better. We can go there with a lot of confidence and belief knowing that we are performing really well."
