Jake Richards has given his thoughts as the season comes to a close for Exeter City at Mansfield Town on Saturday, with a top half finish still in sight for the Grecians.

It has been a successful season for 17-year-old Richards, who was awarded the EFL League One Young Apprentice of the Year award at the EFL Awards on Sunday evening, after a campaign that saw him score his first professional goal, and first EFL goal before Christmas.

"It is a really good feeling being recognised for all my hard work over the last two years, and a huge thank you must go to all of the people that have got me into this position - the coaches, the manager, and my family."

"It is recognition for me, and I wasn't really expecting to win it to be honest. But when I did it was a great feeling!

"As a whole, I think my season has gone well in parts. I didn't have a great start, getting injured, but I think around Christmas I really kicked on and got really motivated to get back in the team and kicked on from there.

"I dipped a little and wasn't in the squad for a while, but I'm back in now and want to prove what I can do. I have had some really big experiences that I can learn from."
