Josh Magennis returned to the Exeter City team as the Grecians were well-beaten by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
A vastly experienced forward, Josh Magennis said there was nothing him and his Exeter City teammates could have done to prepare for the onslaught that Manchester City threw at them. "I think just coming away from the game, we just didn't realise just how relentless they were."
"Obviously you can see it on the television, but when it comes to playing them and getting up-close and personal, they were very efficient in how they played today and they didn't miss any of their chances."
An early chance for City came in the form of a headed effort from Liam Oakes having to be tipped over by James Trafford in the opening minutes, with Jayden Wareham and Ilmari Niskanen awarded shooting opportunities moments later. "Trying to score or trying to create chances has never been a problem for us, whether we take those chances or not is a different thing altogether."
"Maybe the game would have ended differently in those chances had gone in, but if I had wheels I would have been a bike!"
Josh returned to the pitch for the first time after suffering injury away to Bolton Wanderers weeks earlier, the striker replacing Jayden Wareham at half-time and comfortably seeing out the remaining 45 minutes. "I'm feeling good, I was fit and ready to go. I'll rest up for a couple of days because it's been a hectic couple of weeks over Christmas."
"It's a shame it's ended like this to come out of the other side of the new year, but it's good to go back into the league now where our bread and butter is."
