Matt Taylor on Accrington Stanley (H)

Matt Taylor pre Accrington Stanley

Exeter City manager Matt Taylor has given his thoughts ahead of Saturday's opening home league match of the 26/27 season.

The Grecians host Accrington Stanley in a 3pm kick-off at St James Park and will be looking to improve on Saturday's narrow defeat at Grimsby Town.

Speaking ahead of the match, Matt said: "Accrington are a team I respect and one I played against as a young player coming through and at non-league level.

"They have gone on to have a to be a Football League club and get to League One and then drop back down to League Two. They always find good players and always find players around the North West. They are a good club who gave us great opportunities to young players."

The Grecians will be looking to make SJP a fortress this season and Matt knows it's down to the team to get the atmosphere going.

"It's down to us as well. We've got to bring our energy to the pitch, and the fans always respond off the back of that. If it's if we have no tempo or rhythm or if we've no feel in our play, then the fans will be the same.

"We've got to generate an atmosphere for them to, to build on, to grow and to support and then to make it noisy and loud and lively and a difficult place to play for opposition teams. I'm sure we'll be able to do that. We know where we want to get to, and we're certainly not there as yet."
