Matt Taylor previews Stockport County (H)

Exeter City will look to go unbeaten in three games as they host Stockport County at St James Park on Saturday, an occasion that interim manager Matt Taylor is highly anticipating.

The Grecians come into this game off the back of a 2-2 draw against Plymouth Argyle in the Devon Derby, with Matt summarising his thoughts in the wake of that result; "In the first half we missed some really good attacking opportunities, we didn't make their defenders or their goalkeeper work close to their goal often enough when we won the ball back in the middle of the pitch, but we offered our strong shape and looked solid as a team."

"In the second half I was so pleased to have gotten those two goals, and then a little bit of luck and the odd mistake went against us and we came away with a point but it was still a positive point. As disappointed as we were in the changing room that we hadn't taken all three points, the performance was another step in the right direction."

Having watched Stockport's game against AFC Wimbledon last night, Matt recognises the threats they possess: "Excellent manager, fantastic players, good club. On the back of losing at Wembley at Sunday in such a big game, it can affect you mentally and physically but what they did in terms of their performance last night was so, so impressive."

"They've got a really good chance of going up this season, but I want the focus to be on us as always."

Exeter City announced the contract extensions of academy bright sparks Charlie Cummins, George Birch and Ed James in the last ten days, with Matt saying: "That is Exeter City, that is our way of surviving. The academy players on the pitch at the moment are producing performances that everybody should be proud of. That is us, we need to grow it, enhance it, and understand what the two week and two year plans look like, and a longer term understanding how this club stays competitive in the football league."
