Matt Taylor reacts to defeat at Vale Park (A)

Matt Taylor post Port Vale

Exeter City Manager Matt Taylor has said he and the team are the 'most disappointed they've been so far after the Grecians narrow defeat at Vale Park.

The Grecians fell to their third away defeat of the season after a second half penalty from George Byers was enough for the hosts to take the three points.

Speaking after the match Matt said: "The first-half we had honesty and endeavor, but no quality on the pitch. Second half we lost our way. Apart from the first few minutes of the second half down this right hand side. I thought we lost our way and came out second best far too many times in what was a match up game.

"All of a sudden we became stressed in our defensive play and they've still not created. But then obviously it's caused the the mistake. We put too much pressure on ourselves with our ball use. We know that. We understand that. Mistakes are going to happen every now and then because like I say, for the majority of that second half, we were constantly stressed.

"It's a penalty. It's a mistake. It's like I say, the Fitzy's of the world, the James' of the world, the Lukas of the world. Anyone who's involved in a defensive capacity and the constantly under pressure, constantly the pressure and the way the second half went, I thought they physically dominated most of the pitch, especially in central areas.

"So as soon as we couldn't get a handle on that we made mistakes, especially when you're tired and you're stressed. And we did that in that moment. It's a is a big mistake and it's a mistake. But we can forgive mistakes. I can say the way this second half panned out, that's the most disappointed I've been so far."
