Kevin Nicholson has praised the side after their recorded a late win at Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.
Jack Grimmer's own goal after Ethan Brierley's recycled header secured a huge three points on the road as the Grecians bounced back from weekend defeat.
"It was a really tough game of football with two teams fully committed tonight," Nicho said.
"We stopped their rhythm, but on the flipside of that it probably cost our rhythm and we didn't play how we were capable of, but the lads dug in there and you can't say it wasn't deserved.
"At the end of the game, we have to defend better and be more composed and be clearer in our roles, but when it mattered people were throwing themselves in front of everything.
"We won't get too high, but we want the lads to enjoy it and the coach to be a happy place on the way back."
