Pierce Sweeney on City's relegation to Sky Bet League Two

Exeter City's home defeat to Bradford City on the last day of the 2025/26 Sky Bet League One season confirmed relegation to the fourth tier of English football.

Despite results elsewhere going positively for the Grecians, goals curtesy of Kayden Jackson & Antoni Sarcevic were enough to seal the fate. Pierce reflected on his raw emotions after the game: "Right now it's a bit raw. Probably in a couple of weeks time, there might be a bit more clarity around it. Dan Green spoke to us in the changing room and told all of us that wherever we go on holiday during the off-season, just have a little moment to think to ourselves what we could have done better."

Pierce spoke extremely highly of the support shown to him and the team this season: "People will stand here and apologise, but I'd rather say thank you. We've been clapped off the pitch at the end of the game after being relegated, this is a special club like I've said before. Whoever's here has a job to rebuild the football club, and I have got no doubt in my mind that this team will be a force in League Two."
