Pierce Sweeney on his testimonial against Swansea City

Sweeney on Swansea game

Exeter City defender Pierce Sweeney has given his thoughts ahead of his testimonial on Saturday against Swansea City at SJP.

2025/26 marks a 10th year as a Grecian for ‘our Sweenz,’ a player who embodies our football club, understands what it means to a Grecian and part of our community, and is someone is so much more than just a footballer.

Sweenz return to action as a sub in City's friendly at FC United last Saturday - his first taste of action since suffering injury against Barnsley back in December.

"It was really good to be back out and involved in the game," said City's skipper. "It's been quite a while now since I've featured. It's been just over seven months I think. So yeah I was really happy to be back."

"I was happy to get the last half an hour in the game. It was a nice little occasion for FC United and for us to be able to go and play them in their twentieth anniversary of them as a club. So, yeah, really happy to be back out there and, yeah, got lots of the ball in in the half an hour I was under. I'm feeling feeling pretty good at the moment. I'm really looking forward to kinda kicking on now and getting back to where I was, before.

Speaking ahead of his testimonial on Saturday, Sweenz said: "It's gonna be an emotional day. It's gonna be a special day for me, and I'm just trying to enjoy the build up to it. I've got work to do between now and then, to get myself ready for the game, and make sure I'm in the right mindset to perform in the game first and foremost. My family and friends start to come on Friday so that's when it'll start kinda getting a little real.

"Saturday morning will take care of itself and then we're straight into the business come 1pm on Saturday and yeah I'm really looking forward to it. It's gonna be a special day for me, but I think for the football club as well. I think it's been a long time since anybody's had one of these. I and I would probably predict that it'll be another good few years until the next one. So really looking forward to it."
