Cans4City raises over £6,500 during the 24/25 season.

Cans4City update

Fresh from being awarded Silver EFL Green Club status, the club is delighted to announce that the Cans4City scheme has raised over £6,500 for the club this season.

Originally founded in 2005, Cans4City is a big part of the club's ambitions to be as environmentally sustainable as possible and has been running for many years and, since July 2020, has recycled 28,104kg, or over 2 million cans from fans and local businesses and raised an incredible £24,000 in total for the club.

Revenue from this scheme supports excellent causes across the city and the club’s operations, from benches made out of recycled plastic in our fan zones to upgrades for our grounds team to donations to charities close to Grecians’ hearts. Last season Cans4City made a donation to Crohn's & Colitis UK after defender Jack Fitzwater and sports science intern Jack Craigie were diagnosed with the condition.

Cans4City have also enabled the purchase of a pressure washer which is used to clean the stands, ground areas and wheelie bins. Additionally, funds from the project have partly funded the development of the Memorial Garden and have paid for one of the Returning Soldier Silhouettes at St James Park.

Matt Hulland, Resource Recovery Manager at Exeter City Council said: "This season has been amazing, over £6,500 raised for essential projects for Trust and Club and over 6,600kg of cans recycled!

"This brings a running total (since data recording began in July 2020) to over £24,000 raised and over 28,104kg of cans recycled! That is over 2 million cans collected by the incredible collectors around Exeter and Devon! For more information about what Cans4City has been able to contribute to, follow the social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.”

Justin Quick, Chief Operating Officer said: "As a trust-run club, every pound counts and thanks to Cans4City, every can recycled goes towards funding improvements to the club’s facilities or to supporting local community groups and projects

Cans4City remains grateful for Exeter City Council’s commitment to provide the recycling routes for this scheme. This award-winning scheme remains unique in English football and along with other schemes further highlights the Club and Supporters' Trust's commitment to innovation and environmental practices.

You can support Cans4City by dropping off your empty cans at one of the scheme’s recycling collection points, which include the Fan Zone at St James’ Park, as well as at the Old Tiverton Road Co-op, and The Devon Yeoman pub on Beacon Lane. For more information about the scheme, please click here.

A huge thank you to our incredible team of volunteers that work to run the Cans4City scheme.
