Vincent Harper returns to Exeter City!

Vinnie Harper returns

We are delighted to announce the return of Vincent Harper to Exeter City, with the popular wing-back joining the Grecians on a season-long loan from fellow Sky Bet League Two side Walsall, subject to EFL approval.

The 25-year-old returns to St James Park having previously spent two seasons with City between 2023 and 2025, making 65 appearances and contributing three goals and three assists.

Vinnie departed the Grecians in the summer of 2025 to join Walsall on a two-year deal and enjoyed a strong first campaign with the Saddlers, making 38 appearances across all competitions.

A dynamic left wing-back, Vinnie began his career with Bristol City and gained his first taste of senior football through loan spells with Gloucester City, Weston-super-Mare and Bath City.

After leaving Bristol City at the end of the 20/21 season, he joined Chippenham Town before making the move to National League side Eastleigh just a few weeks later. Harper quickly established himself as an important player at the Silverlake Stadium, enjoying two productive seasons with the Spitfires. He scored four goals during the 22/23 campaign, with his performances attracting the attention of the Grecians and we secured his services for an undisclosed compensation fee in the summer of 2023.

Vinnie made his Exeter debut during the 23/24 campaign and went on to become a popular figure among the Grecian faithful, making 65 appearances during his first spell at the club.

Vinnie has also represented Kenya at international level. He received his first call-up to the Harambee Stars squad in October 2023 and was an unused substitute for a friendly against Russia.

He went on to make his senior international debut in 2025, featuring in Kenya's FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign against Burundi.

Now back in red, Vinnie is looking forward to getting started with Matt Taylor's side as City prepare for the 2026/27 Sky Bet League Two campaign which begins with a trip to Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Speaking about bringing Vinnie back to St James Park, City manager Matt Taylor said:
“Vinnie is a player who is familiar with our fans and knows the football club really well and some of the current squad from his previous spell with us.

Although he is still young at 25, he will bring experience to the squad of playing in League One and Two. He will provide physicality and quality to the outside of the pitch, and he is an outstanding 1v1 defender.

“I’m looking forward to working with him and looking forward to seeing how he adds to the group and we hope we he is available for tomorrow’s match, if all the paperwork is sorted in time.”

Vinnie will wear the No.24 shirt.

Welcome back to Exeter City, Vinnie!
