Exeter City make the long midweek trip to Cambridge United as Matt Taylor’s men look to continue their strong start to the season.

The Grecians make the trip to the Abbey Stadium following a 1-1 draw at home to Newport County last weekend.

And, after taking a point against the Exiles, manager Matt Taylor says his side are looking forward to what will be a tough test against Joe Dunne’s side, despite a busy fixture schedule.

The City boss said: “Anyone that has been to Cambridge knows it will be tough. They will be right into us and right at us, but we have good enough players to deal with that.

“Players need to play games, you can’t wrap them up in cotton wool. They’re paid to play football, if it’s Saturday then Tuesday and then Saturday again they have to roll their sleeves up and do it. They get their time off when it’s needed, but sometimes you have to get on with it, I’m not going to make any excuses about a lot of games because it’s what we want. It shows we are doing well in the cup competitions as well; the squad is good enough and it can cope.”

WHEN WE LAST MET

It hasn’t been too long since the Grecians made the journey to the Abbey Stadium, and it was a match which will live long in the memory, as City came from behind to win the match 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

Jabo Ibehre’s goal for United put the home side ahead before Jayden Stockley headed City level. George Maris then put Cambridge back in front with an excellent strike from distance, before Matt Jay scored his first league goal for the club to make the score 2-2. Jake Taylor was then on hand to put City ahead late on and confirm all three points for the Grecians.

BY CAR:

To travel to the Abbey Stadium, take the M5 to Leicestershire before merging onto the M6 and taking the A14 into Cambridge.

BY RAIL:

There are two railway stations in Cambridge, the main Cambridge Railway Station is around two miles from the ground and the new Cambridge North Railway station is just less than two miles from the ground. To get to Cambridge Railway Station from Exeter St David’s it would take between four and four and half hours with two changes.

The journey to Cambridge North would be similar. To walk to the ground from the station should take around 30 minutes at a good pace. When you leave the station, take the first right hand turn into Tenison Avenue.

After the traffic lights, turn right into St Barnabas Road and follow this road over the traffic lights into Gywdir Road.

Go through the traffic barrier and take the first left into Norfolk Street. Then, take the first right turn beyond the newsagents into St. Matthews Street, pass the church and take the fourth right into New Street. Follow until you reach Coldhams Lane. Go left here and take the first right onto Newmarket Road where you will find the stadium.

PUBS/FOOD:

There is a supporter’s club at the ground that normally allows entrance to away fans however it can get busy on match days and sometimes has to turn away fans because it is full. Along Newmarket Road going towards the city centre is the Wrestlers Pub, which also serves Thai food. A number of pubs in the area have recently closed down, meaning there isn’t much choice without travelling into the city centre.
