📝 Match Preview: Wigan Athletic (A)

All you need to know!

9 February 2024

Exeter City hit the road on Saturday, to take on Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium in a 3pm kick-off.

The match will be City's first trip to the DW Stadium, which was built in 1999, the last time City faced Wigan away was in October 1996 where the Grecians fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Gary Caldwell's Thoughts

Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell will be returning to face a side he both played for and managed, here is what he had to say:

Caldwell lifted the FA Cup with the Latics in 2013, during a five-year spell at the DW Stadium, and Saturday will be the first time the Scot has returned to his former club as a manager.

"It'll be good experience. It's a club I spent a long time at," Gary said.

"I still know a lot of people there, the manager, the assistant, the staff, but at the end of the day you're going there to win a game of football and come 3pm we are competing and doing everything we can to win the game.

"It'll be nice to go back, I had some great times there and hold a lot of memories there. I spoke to Graham [Barrow, Wigan asst. manager] last night and that was the cut-off, we agreed we wouldn't speak again until after the game over a beer.

"It'll be nice for my family as well, they will all be there. Let's hope it's a nice day, but also a good day by winning the game."
