Match Preview: Doncaster Rovers (A)

Doncaster Rovers match day preview image

Exeter City hit the road for the first time in 2025/26 as they make the long trip north to face Doncaster Rovers in the Sky Bet League One opener.

After a successful unbeaten season, the Grecians will have a tough task in their first match as they take on a Doncaster side who were League Two champions in 2024/25 and will have a strong crowd behind them as they hope to begin their season with a victory.

It will be City's first visit to the Eco-Power Stadium since 2017, when the Grecians won 3-1 against the then league leaders to secure a play-off place.

Gary Caldwell's thoughts

Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as the Grecians gear up for the Sky Bet League One opener at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The newly promoted Rovers will provide a tough test to kick off the season, but after nine summer signings and an unbeaten pre-season campaign, the group go into the game in good spirits.

“We are really excited for the start of the season. As always there is that hope and that expectation of what could happen, but as we know over the course of a long season there are going to be highs and lows."
