Exeter City Football Club is delighted to announce that midfielder Tom Dean has had a one-year contract extension triggered in his deal.
The extension will see Tom remain at St James Park until the end of the 2026/27 season.
One of our Own, Tom made his first-team debut as a second-half substitute against Arsenal under-21 in the EFL Trophy in October 2023. Establishing a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder, Tom became a full professional with City in May 2024. Having then featured during the club's pre-season games in July 2024, Tom joined Plymouth Parkway on loan on the eve of the 2024/25 campaign whilst also featuring for City's under-21s in the Premier League Cup.
Having been a regular for Parkway, Tom returned to City in April 2025 and promptly signed a new contract through to the summer of 2026, ahead of making his league debut as a 70th minute substitute at Crawley Town on Easter Monday 2025. This was followed five days later by his first league start in City’s final day 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town. On the same day his older brother, and former academy player Will was part of the Truro City side that won National League South and promotion to the National League.
Tom made ten appearances for City earlier this season, ahead of joining Truro City on loan in March 2026.
Speaking about signing the contract extension, Tom said: “I’m delighted. I feel I’ve put a lot of work in behind the scenes this year. I’ve not played as much as I would have liked to but feel I’ve applied myself off the pitch in the gym and training – so I feel I’ve deserved it.
“The coaches have given me a clear plan and what it looks like next season in terms of my identity as a player so I know what I need to do when I go away in the off-season and what I need to work on and how I need to come back in order to be able to kick-start the season.”
